GoalGetter: Making It Happen
Time to work on your business ...
Owning your own home, providing for your family, ensuring your children have the best education available, regular holidays and peace of mind that when you retire you can live the life you want! It can happen ...
If you're ambitious enough to reach or exceed your potential, then you may want to talk to me about the GoalGetter programme!
When asked "Why do you run your own business?" many business owners will say all of the above and that they want to be their own boss so they have control over their lives.
Business owners want to have control, but more often than not, the business starts controlling them. The pressure of the day to day running of the business combined with the need to generate more sales is the number one stress factor for business owners.
Spending too much time working in your business and not enough working on it is one of the biggest mistakes business owners make. Now, this is a line that you may have heard over and over, but what does it really mean?
"It is not just about having a plan for world domination, but about looking at all aspects of your business!"
From the systems and processes, the roles required for the on-going success, having the right people, doing the things that they are good at; all the way through to winning new customers and keeping them.
One of the biggest complaints from my clients is the lack of sales/customers and that is when the panic sets in! However, in my experience, very few business owners have decent - or for that matter - any kind of sales management procedures or system in place.
My GoalGetter programme helps business owners determine both their personal and business goals which are the fundamental driving forces of the business and this then enables us to delve into the key areas of Marketing, People, Systems and Finance.
There is more to marketing your business than just advertising it. No business can survive – let alone thrive – unless it is very good at getting and keeping customers. The sales and marketing session in GoalGetter, encompasses marketing strategies as part of a wider programme and helps you to identify your strengths and weaknesses, find new opportunities for raising your profile and helps you to work out exactly what your goals and timescales are - which is something we can all lose sight of when we're too involved in the day to day running of our business.
"The challenge is to ensure that you are doing the right things and maximising what you already have!"
For example, by performing a SWOT analysis, business owners will be able to determine their Strengths (what makes people buy from us?), Weaknesses (what do others do that are better than us?), Opportunities (what new products/services could we offer?) and Threats (what are our competitors doing that could damage us?).
So how about some tips to help you get more clients?
Sell the benefits, not the product - Customers buy from you because you give them a solution to a problem. For example, businesses buy new computers because they need to update and replace old, slow machines. The attractive solution to this problem – new computers at a fair price with some added benefit such as good backup and support services from the supplier. Regardless of the product or service that you offer, sell the benefits to your customers.
Differentiate your firm - and increase your chances of closing the sale by offering added benefits such as great service, a free add-on, etc.
Focus on the numbers - There is no point in selling huge quantities of a product or service to your "biggest customer" if you are selling at a loss. You should focus your business development efforts on targeting new "high margin" customers and build your business into a more profitable entity. Equally, you should try to reduce the number of or even eradicate non-profitable customers from your business. You can do this by increasing the price of your products or services to a level where you make a healthy margin. If the customer stays with you then you have a positive result – they are now profitable. If they leave you for another supplier – no harm, since they were loss making for your business.
Build Relationships - with your target market should be viewed as an investment. It requires time, effort and budget. In order to become a market leader your business needs to demonstrate its expertise. You can do this by writing articles for business magazines and newspapers, producing newsletters, public speaking at seminars and events or just by meeting potential clients face to face. Essentially, you are giving a little something away to potential customers for free. Over time, by continuously demonstrating expertise and giving away some free advice, potential clients are more likely to buy from you.
